Falling in love with creating beautiful and sensational designs, for which he is now famous for, George Nelson attended Yale University to become one of the most sought after designers and talented, revolutionary artists, who designed much of the 20th century’s most renowned modernist furniture.
Displaying incredible skills as a talented writer, the Chairman of Herman Miller overlooked Nelson’s lack of previous designer experience, and hired Nelson for his ability to make furniture innovative and purposeful. He soon became the director of design, and later went onto establish his own company George Nelson Associates Inc., which brought together some of the best designers of the era.
During his career as a Furniture Designer, Nelson was responsible for many now famous designs, including the Coconut Chair, the Sling Sofa, the Ball Clock and the Nelson End Table, just to name a few.
